Probably the only time I've ever seen something like that in a YouTube comments section. There were even comments back and forth from a Christian and an atheist talking about their favorite scenes from the movie, and a lot of comments about how they respect other's views and are happy that this movie can bring people together. "I'm atheist but I loved this movie as a kid, I still watch it" or "I'm Christian and I love that people that aren't religious still love this film". I went on there, bracing myself for a lot of "debate" in the comments section. I'll never forget going on to YouTube to listen to one of the songs for this movie. I think "critically overlooked" would have been better, so there ya go, critically overlooked. I can't find a single thing I dislike about this film, and I would love to hear what others think of it, and opinions on why it does not appear on many top lists of animated films.ĮDIT: hey, thanks for all the great discussion! It seems my choice of the word "overlooked" as a blanket statement was probably not the best one according to many comments. The animation was really immaculate for the time, and still holds up to this day, unlike some older animated films that show their age compared to modern films. The score, by Hans Zimmer, and vocals are among my favorite in any musical, especially the male chorus which is very strong in this film. Just taking a look at the cast you see incredible credits like Ralph Fiennes, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum, Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, as well as many other talented actors. It checks all the boxes for a classic animated musical, but is rarely seen on any lists of top animated films.
